Call for Expressions of Interest: Lecturer/Senior Lecturer position within the School of Medical Sciences

As part of a strategic program to invest in new academic talent, UNSW is recruiting staff at the level of Lecturer/Senior Lecturer (SPF03 program). Positions are currently available under this scheme at UNSW Medical Sciences.

We are seeking expressions of interest from early career academics who can contribute to both teaching and research within our school. Each appointment is for 3 years initially with provision for conversion to a continuing appointment. If you see your future as an academic in a leading research-intensive university, then we would love to talk to you!

You should be in an early career academic or researcher (typically 3-8 years post PhD), who values the opportunity to be both a researcher and a teacher.

We are seeking expressions of interest in the form of a brief research outline and curriculum vitae. Candidates will need to demonstrate:

  • excellent research performance (preferably via external grants or publication in leading journals) and potential
  • a strong commitment and capability for undergraduate teaching in biomedical sciences relevant to the disciplines of the School of Medical Sciences
  • potential as a future leader in a university academic setting

The University of NSW

The main UNSW campus is located on a 38-hectare site at Kensington, seven kilometres from the centre of Sydney. UNSW is host to ground-breaking research in fields as diverse as quantum computing, molecular engineering, photovoltaics, robotics, biomedical research, financial markets and design and interactive cinema.

The School of Medical Sciences

The School of Medical Sciences employs over 200 academic, general and research staff within its core disciplines of Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology, Pharmacology, and Exercise Physiology. The School is actively engaged in research programs supported by a wide range of external granting bodies, including the National Health and Medical Research Council, the Australian Research Council and the National Heart Foundation. The School delivers courses and programs to more than 5000 undergraduate, Honours and postgraduate students in several domains including Medicine, Medical Science, Exercise Physiology, and Advanced Science.

The School occupies the Wallace Wurth (Medicine) building at UNSW, and is physically linked to both the Lowy Cancer Centre, and the School of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences. Core research facilities exist within this Biomedical Science precinct to fully support virtually all contemporary forms of biomedical research. Significant research support infrastructure and staff are also available to academics within the School.

The Wallace Wurth Building has recently undergone significant extensions and renovations ($157M). This work has resulted in the creation of state-of-the-art facilities for both teaching and research, and has provided a new base for the Kirby Institute for Infection and Immunity in Society. The School is adjacent to the Prince of Wales/Sydney Children’s Hospital/Royal Women’s Hospital complex at Randwick. Strong collaborative ties exist with the Children’s Cancer Institute Australia, Neuroscience Research Australia, the Garvan Institute and the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute.
