Educational Research and Development Group
The Educational Research and Development group is focused on cutting-edge developments in e-learning, as well as innovative online learning tools and assessments, and their effect upon learning outcomes. This research is carried out by staff across the disciplines of SoMS, as well as students engaged in PhD, Honours and Independent Learning Projects. Much of the work of the group has been incorporated into current teaching practice within the school, including virtual microscopy-based online tutorials in pathology, and innovative teaching media and strategies in the teaching of neuroanatomy and gross anatomy. The work has also resulted in publications in international peer-reviewed journals, and has been supported by competitive grants received from ALTC (now OLT), the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing, and the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA), as well as more recent large grants from Health Workforce Australia ($1.2 million) and the National Broadband Network ($3.3 million) grants. The latter relate to collaborative projects involving colleagues in the School of Computer Science and Engineering at UNSW, commercial partners, as well as other universities within Australia and internationally.
