Pick My Brain this National Science Week



UNSW's School of Medical Sciences is inviting the community to Pick My Brain in a public forum on the latest advances in neuroscience. It is one of a series of events at UNSW to mark National Science Week.


Pick My BrainThe Pick My Brain forum is made up of experts from UNSW's Faculty of Medicine who will discuss the latest findings in the areas of dementia, including Alzheimer's Disease, as well as brain trauma, bipolar disorder and depression, neurosurgery, nerve damage and regeneration. The panel will also answer questions from the audience.

Other events during National Science Week include:

Brains for Breakfast
UNSW experts in anatomy, pathology and medicine will instruct students as they 'operate' on brain-shaped jellies as part of Brains for Breakfast. Gowned in surgical gear, students will dissect and diagnose the jelly 'brains' for conditions including the effect of alcohol on the brain, strokes, brain injury, Alzheimer's Disease, meningitis and tumours. NSW Minister for Science and Medical Research Frank Sartor will take part in the event. Wed 18 August, 7.45-9am, Biomedical Lecture Theatre Foyer, Kensington campus.

Getting on My Nerves
National Science Week will also mark the launch of the Museum of Human Disease's latest exhibition, Getting on My Nerves. The exhibit highlights neurological disorders including brain injuries, meningitis, bipolar disorder, multiple sclerosis and Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and Huntingdon's diseases.
