Success in 2006 UNSW research funding awards

The School of Medical Sciences (SoMS) has something to celebrate with the announcement of the 2006 UNSW Goldstar Awards and Faculty Research Grants.

UNSW Goldstar Awards, worth $30,000 each, are made for highly ranked ARC and NHMRC applications that just missed out on funding. The awards are given on the condition that recipients reapply to either ARC or NHMRC in the very next round. SoMS staff received eight awards for 2006, compared with just five awards in 2005.

The School was also well represented by its staff in the Faculty Research Grants Program (FRGP), winning a total of 13 awards. The program is designed to support cross disciplinary research and emerging research strengths. The Early Career Researcher Awards (ECR) are part of the Program and are available to staff who have recently begun a career in research.

The successful UNSW Goldstar Awards projects for 2006 are:
Dr Pascal Carrive - Role of medullary raphe nuclei in the expression of cardiovascular response to psychological stress
