Leading the cream of the crop
Professor Levon Khachigian, who is a National Health and Medical Research Council Senior Principal Research Fellow based at the Centre for Vascular Research, has been appointed the President of the Australian Society for Medical Research (ASMR).

Professor Khachigian will head the peak professional society representing Australian health and medical research until November next year.
"We know that health and medical research has real benefits for individuals and society," said Professor Khachigian. "There are also enormous economic benefits to Australia. We hope this will be reflected in increased funding from the federal government in next year's budget. Health and medical research is unarguably a Golden Egg.
"It's a great honour to be heading this organisation which represents in excess of 100,000 stakeholders," said Professor Khachigian. "It is vital that scientists effectively communicate the findings of their research with non-scientists and politicians, and not limit it to just within the research community. Our decision-makers need to be made more aware of the real value of medical research."
Professor Khachigian has been a member of the ASMR for 20 years, during which he has organised annual conferences and has played a strong public advocacy role for health and medical research.
