UNSW researcher wins international accolade
UNSW Professor Carolyn Geczy has been awarded an international prize at the 7th World Congress on Inflammation.
Professor Geczy, who is in the School of Medical Sciences, has won the second International Association of Inflammation Societies’ Women in Inflammation Science Award this week (23 August).
The award was based on Professor Geczy’s scientific accomplishments and her impact on the advancement of women in inflammation research.
Professor Geczy’s most recent body of work focuses on basic mechanisms of inflammation, in particular the role of S100 proteins in inflammatory disorders such as asthma and allergy, rheumatoid arthritis, infection and inflammatory bowel disease.
“This award recognises two of my great passions,” said Professor Geczy. “I am passionate about my research and I am also keen to mentor others.”
Professor Geczy was the first woman on the NHMRC research fellowships committee in the 1980’s and the first woman president of the Australian Immunological Society.
