Citation Classic in Pharmacology
A UNSW research paper has been selected as a citation classic paper by major international journal, the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology (BJCP). It has been cited in the journal 215 times.
The paper Stereoselective disposition of ibuprofen enantiomers in man by EJD Lee, K Williams, R Day, G Graham and D Champion was recently reprinted with the other 13 citation classic papers in the special thirtieth anniversary issue of BJCP.
The research project was conducted at St Vincent’s Hospital in the Department of Clinical Pharmacology in the mid-1980’s. The Department was part of the School of Physiology and Pharmacology at the time, which is now part of the School of Medical Sciences
The work was a study on the metabolism of ibuprofen, a widely-used asprin-like drug, marketed in Australia as Nurofen and Brufen.
A considerable amount of research on the metabolism of ibuprofen and related drugs was stimulated by the publication. It also led to the marketing of the pure active isomer in some countries.
