New President of the Australian Neuroscience Society
SoMS Professor (Conjoint) Glenda Halliday has taken up the position of President of the Australian Neuroscience Society.
Professor Halliday, who will be in the position for the next two years, continues a strong association between UNSW, the School and the Society. She takes over from Scientia and SoMS Professor (Conjoint) George Paxinos, who was President for 2004-2005.
Two other UNSW-affiliated academics have previously held the post. Professor Ian McCloskey was President from 1986-1987 and Professor Elspeth McLachlan, who was the first woman to assume the role, presided from 1996-1997.
The Society has about 800 members in all states of Australia as well as in New Zealand and is hosting the 7th International Brain Research Organisation (part of UNESCO) World Congress of Neuroscience in Melbourne July 12-17 2006.
