Since the merger of the three former schools into the School of Medical Sciences, there have been some exciting developments in the Research activities of the School. Cross-discipline research collaboration has been significantly enhanced and this has led to the development of formal Research Groups with an integrated, collaborative, approach to research programs.

Aims

To make better use of research grant funds by collaborating in the purchase and use of specialised laboratory equipment and skills. The aim here is to avoid duplication of equipment and skills, avoiding unnecessary expenditure and thus making better use of the funds received from granting bodies such as the ARC and the NHMRC.

To provide a platform for submitting program grant applications which provide for large, inter-related research projects which are specifically cross-discipline in how they examine research questions. Having groups with a range of research skills across multiple disciplines collaborating under one roof provides a much stronger base for large, integrated research programs.
